Meet the Team

Roger was born in Lichfield, but grew up in Norfolk. He left school to become a Draughtsman's Apprentice at Rolls Royce in Derby where he later worked part time at Derby Playhouse. This led on to training at the Central School of Speech & Drama in London. He later acted and directed at the Watford Palace Theatre.

Having a young family he switched to become Head of Drama at the Cavendish School in Hemel Hempstead. From here he went on to complete an MA in Dance Studies at Goldsmiths College and then founded his own business - a Performing Arts School for 6 to 18 year olds in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. This venture flourished with over 150 pupils and a staff of 10. Many productions were shown to the public at the local theatre using professional technicians.

In sourcing many 'props' for his productions Roger became fascinated with Antiques and Collectibles and this finally led to a move to St Columb Major and a partnership in the local Antiques shop! He is married and has two children and four grandchildren.

“I feel that in forming this new Chamber we are in a very privileged position which carries with it the responsibility for ensuring that we do our very best for all our members. This includes solo enterprises right up to medium and large businesses. We are all part of a cohesive team looking to help, advise and guide each other in the search for a more prosperous and successful town and district in the future.”

“The committee approached me about providing a website for the Chamber. I am very proud to now be a member of the Chamber and the Committee. It’s great working with people who are so enthusiastic about the future of St Columb Major & District.”

Beason Bespoke Frames

“I grew up on the edge of “The Potteries” as a country boy. I then travelled a lot in my youth and I have seen many different cultures and countries around the world, so I’ve come a long way since moving to Cornwall, about eighteen years ago. I married and had children here, and we live opposite "Glanville's, Builders Merchant" almost in the middle of St Columb Major.

Cornwall is a place that asks something of you, so if you are prepared to give some of yourself, and work a bit, then what you get back in return is priceless. I love living here, and have found great friends hidden in this rare and rugged peninsular. In 2006, my wife and I bought a small corner shop in St Columb because we wanted to work where we lived. My wife is an artist, and I am a guild commended Picture Framer ("Beason Bespoke"). Shortly after renovating our little shop, the recession hit, and it is hard even now for us to fully commit to running a business in St Columb Major. Therefore we both currently work part time in Art & Design within the Cornwall College Group.

I know that much can be done to improve conditions for business in this area. I have always been a supporter of reinstating a local Chamber of Commerce, so I am thrilled to be Vice Chair. I have recently been co-opted onto the Town Council, and so you could say I have plenty on.

An active local Chamber of Commerce plays a crucial role in helping to establish and safeguard local economies. My role within The Chamber, is to carry  concerns raised by members, to local government, with one objective in mind:

'A brighter economic climate for business in the district of St Columb Major'.”
